Olm is part of the Proteidae family. Some people also call it proteus or cave salamander. It is an aquatic amphibian and the largest cave animal. Oml black, which can be found in the region of Belá Krajina, is an interesting subspecies, especially thanks to its dark pigmentation. Proteus anguinus parkelj, which is its full name, lives endemically only in the shallow karst area of Bela Krajina, on an area of just 10 km2.
