If you decide to go here in the summer, be prepared that the town will be very crowded. At the end of September, locals and tourists alike celebrate the Festa di pesce, or fish festival. The area is famous for its huge lemons, which make sensational sorbets, granita and lemon liqueur. What to see?
Take Via del Mulini and you will be right in the heart of the city, with many cafes and shops. The historic and unique Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta also awaits you in the center. It dates back to the famous Byzantine era, when Positano was a very important part of the Amalfi Republic. There are seven other churches in Positano.
There are a total of five watchtowers on the coast by the sea. They originated from the 13th century. The oldest was Torre Sponda, built during the reign of Anjou. An interesting place is the Museo Archeologico Romano, which offers a visit to an underground crypt and an ancient Roman villa with wall paintings.

About 60 km separates the city from the volcano Vesuvius. The stretch of coast from Positano to Salerno is considered one of the most beautiful coasts in the world. It’s also worth going a little further afield to visit Bari and the fairytale town of Alberobello.
